About this grant

The EV Chargepoint Grant for Renters and Flat Owners helps people in rented accommodation or flat ownership cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home EV chargepoint socket, up to £500 per socket. The grant is paid directly to your OZEV-approved installer, Ocunio Energy and deducted from your invoice — you never handle the money yourself.

This grant is specifically for people who do not own a standalone house. Homeowners with a driveway are not eligible for this scheme.

Eligibility

You may apply if all of the following apply to you

  • You live in a flat you own (including shared ownership), or you rent any residential property.
  • Your home has its own private, off-street parking space that you own or have a legal right to use, which is accessible to you at all times.
  • You own or use an OZEV-approved electric or qualifying plug-in hybrid vehicle.
  • The chargepoint has not yet been installed — this grant cannot be backdated.
  • The property is an existing, occupied residential property in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland).

You cannot apply if

  • You own a standalone house (unless it has been converted into flats and you occupy only one flat).
  • You rent a room in a home where the landlord or owner also lives (for example, as a lodger).
  • You are moving house or planning to move.
  • You have already claimed this grant, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), or the Domestic Recharge Scheme at your current address.
  • A chargepoint is legally required at the property — for example, because it is a new build subject to building regulations.
  • You live in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
  • The property is unoccupied or still being built.

Your parking space

The parking space must be:

  • Off-street, private, and clearly defined.
  • Accessible to you at all times — it does not need to be physically attached to the property.
  • One you own or have a legal right to use, with supporting documentation (e.g. from a freeholder for a block of flats).

Your installer Ocunio Energy will assess whether the space is safe for EV charging before installation proceeds.

Vehicle requirements

Your vehicle must appear on the OZEV-approved electric vehicles list (gov.uk). You qualify if you are:

  • A registered owner of a new or second-hand eligible EV.
  • A leaseholder of an eligible vehicle for at least 6 months.
  • Assigned a company car or named as the primary user of an eligible EV for at least 6 months.
  • Currently using a vehicle through a salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Someone who has an eligible vehicle on order.

If your vehicle lease bundles in a chargepoint, the lease must state that you own the chargepoint once payment is complete, itemise its cost including VAT, and be for at least 6 months. Show your installer proof of ownership or lease before applying.

How to apply

From 1 April 2026 you apply directly online via the GOV.UK Find a Grant platform. The previous process — where your installer sent you a link — no longer applies to new applications.

  • Contact an OZEV-authorised installer to discuss your needs and get a dated quote.
  • Gather all required permissions and documents before starting your application
  • Create an account if you do not already have one.
  • Complete and submit the online application. OZEV will review it and notify you and your installer by email if approved.

You will need to include the following documents to support your application:

If you are renting

  • Signed and dated tenancy agreement
  • Utility bill (less than 3 months’ old) showing your name and property address where chargepoint will be installed
  • Written permission from your landlord/property manager to install your changepoint – must include the name of the person giving permission and refer to you by name and to the address of the property. Applicants may be asked by OZEV to provide this at any time
  • A quote for the installation of your chargepoint from an OZEV-authorised installer

If you own your flat

  • Utility bill (less than 3 months’ old) showing your name and property address
  • Written permission from freeholder/property manager to install your chargepoint, must include the name of the person giving permission, and refer to you by name and to the address of the property. Applicants may be asked by OZEV to provide this at any time
  • A quote for installation of your chargepoint from an OZEV-authorised installer

If you have a vehicle on order

  • Your order form

After your application is approved

  • If you are eligible for the grant, OZEV will let you and your installer know. Both parties will receive an email which includes a letter stating terms & conditions for receipt of the grant, instructions on starting installation and how installers can claim a grant once installation is completed. Your Installer will receive a similar letter and a link to an online form.
  • When your installer, Ocunio Energy finishes the installation, we will claim the grant on your behalf. The claim will give details of your chargepoint to OZEV. Photos must clearly show the chargepoint model, serial number, location and wider surroundings and a copy of the invoice, which must show the total installation cost minus the grant amount.
  • Your installer must deduct the grant amount from your invoice before they claim the grant.
  • If OZEV approves an application, they will pay the grant amount to Ocunio Energy.
