About This Grant

The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Households with On-Street Parking provides financial support for the purchase and installation of an EV chargepoint at a residential property, specifically for households without access to private off-street parking. This scheme is administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), part of the Department for Transport.

The grant covers 75% of the combined cost of the chargepoint and its installation, up to a maximum of £500 per socket for applications submitted from 1 April 2026. A permanent cross-pavement charging solution (such as a cable channel cut into the pavement) must be installed simultaneously.

This grant does not entitle the applicant to a reserved parking space on the public highway. Other vehicles may legally park in the space at any time.

Eligibility Criteria

Property Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • Own or rent the residential property at which the chargepoint will be installed and be a resident there.
  • NOT have private and exclusive access to off-street parking such as a driveway, garage or residential car park. If you have such access, you must use the Renters and Flat
  • Have adequate on-street parking available outside or near your home that is lawful and does not prejudice the safety and free flow of traffic.
  • Own or are responsible for an eligible vehicle.
  • Be located in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Properties in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man are not eligible.

Vehicle Requirements

You must own, lease, or be responsible for an OZEV-approved electric vehicle. Eligible vehicle categories are:

  • Registered keeper of a new or second-hand eligible battery electric vehicle (BEV).
  • Registered keeper of an eligible plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) with CO2 emissions below 50g/km.
  • Assigned a company car (eligible EV or PHEV).
  • Leaseholder of an eligible vehicle (see lease conditions below).
  • Named by your employer as the primary user of an eligible EV.
  • A person who has placed a firm order for an eligible electric vehicle.

If your vehicle lease is bundled with a chargepoint, the lease agreement must:

  • State that you own the chargepoint once payment is complete.
  • Itemise the cost of the chargepoint and installation, including VAT.
  • Ensure the chargepoint warranty meets grant requirements.
  • Be for a vehicle lease period of at least 6 months.

You must show Ocunio Energy installer proof that you own or lease your electric vehicle.

Cross-Pavement Solution Requirement

A permanent cross-pavement charging solution must be installed alongside the chargepoint. This is the defining requirement of this particular grant scheme.

  • The solution must be permanent — cable covers, mats or any other temporary solution placed on top of a cable are NOT eligible.
  • Typical solutions include a cable channel or ducting cut into the pavement.
  • You must obtain consent from your local highways authority before applying. Local authorities each have their own policies; not all areas currently permit cross-pavement installations.
  • Planning permission from your local planning authority may also be required and must be declared in your application.
⚠  Check Local Authority Permission Early Local highways authority (LHA) consent is mandatory evidence for your grant application. Contact your LHA as early as possible — some councils have lengthy processing times or do not yet permit cross-pavement solutions. LHA and planning authority responsibilities may sit with different departments or different tiers of local government (e.g. county council vs district council in two-tier areas).

Who Cannot Apply

You are NOT eligible for this grant if you:

  • Have already had the chargepoint installed (this grant cannot be backdated).
  • Have previously claimed this grant or the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Renters and Flat Owners, or its predecessors (EVHS / Domestic Recharge Scheme) for your current residence.
  • Are moving house or plan to move house.
  • Have a current chargepoint and simply want a replacement or upgrade.
  • Want to relocate an existing chargepoint to a new property.
  • Have private and exclusive access to off-street parking (driveway, garage or residential car park).
  • Will not be installing a permanent cross-pavement charging solution.

How to Apply

From 1 April 2026, applications will be made directly by customers via the GOV.UK ‘Find a Grant’ platform. The process below reflects the updated procedure.

  1. Obtain third-party permissions (if needed)

If your chargepoint will be installed on property managed by a landlord, freeholder, managing agent or private road owner, obtain their written permission before proceeding.

  • Find an OZEV-approved installer

Contact us at Ocunio Energy; we are on the official OZEV-approved list (available at GOV.UK: gov.uk/electric-vehicle-chargepoint-installers) and can obtain a quote. Only OZEV-approved installers and chargepoint models are eligible.

  • Contact your local highways authority (LHA)

Apply for LHA consent to install the cross-pavement solution. This is mandatory evidence for your grant application. Do not install any cross-pavement solution yourself without this consent.

  • Create a ‘Find a Grant’ account and begin your application

Use the ‘Start new application’ button on the grant page at find-government-grants.service.gov.uk. You will need to create an account if you do not already have one. You will be required to: (a) upload evidence of your LHA consent; (b) declare that you will obtain all necessary planning permissions; and (c) confirm eligibility details.

  • Await eligibility notification

OZEV will review your application. If you are eligible, you will receive an email containing: a letter confirming the terms and conditions for grant payment; instructions on proceeding with the installation; and instructions for your installer on how to claim the grant once work is complete.

  • Proceed with installation

Once notified of eligibility, your OZEV-approved installer may proceed. The chargepoint Will NOT be installed before receiving this notification — the grant cannot be applied retrospectively.

  • Installer submits the claim

When both the cross-pavement solution and chargepoint have been installed, your installer completes and submits the installer claim form. The installer must submit: details of the chargepoint installed; photographs showing the cross-pavement solution, chargepoint model, serial number, location and wider surroundings; and a copy of your invoice or subscription contract.

After your application is approved

If the claim is approved, OZEV pays the grant directly to your installer. They will deduct the grant amount from your invoice. Your invoice will show: total installation cost, grant amount deducted, and your net payment.

Grant Amount and Payment

The grant covers 75% of the combined purchase and installation cost of the chargepoint socket, up to the following maximum of £500 per socket.

The grant is paid directly to Ocunio Energy your OZEV-approved installer and does not pass through your hands. Your invoice will clearly show the total cost of installation, the grant deducted, and the remaining amount you are required to pay.

The cross-pavement solution cost is not covered by the grant — only the chargepoint purchase and installation costs are eligible.

Eligible Chargepoints and Installers

You must use an OZEV-approved installer and an eligible chargepoint model. Using an unapproved installer or chargepoint will disqualify your claim.

Your installer is responsible for: following all safety requirements published by OZEV; submitting the installer claim form after installation; providing photographs to the required specification; and deducting the grant from your invoice once approved.
